Job description Trading Standards Officer
We are looking for a temporary Lead Trading Standards Officer to work in East Anglia. This position is initially for a period 3 months.
The role:
To deliver the Trading Standards Service Plan by carrying out a range of enforcement and advisory duties, development, delivery and management of projects, tasks and activities that contribute to the work of the section and of other sections. Medium term and annual delivery targets will be set, determined by the service planning process.
To manage and develop section officers.
To follow appropriate and effective policy and management systems reflecting legal requirements and corporate standards, especially in relation to financial control, administration, information management, personnel, health, safety and wellbeing and equal opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage section officers and, where applicable, support their development by acting as supervisor (planning, directing and managing performance) and/or assessor for CPCF and in-house competency demonstration.
Develop and maintain expertise as the Service Lead in an agreed trading standards functional or knowledge area to meet customer and service requirements. [Refer to the Role of the Service Lead].
Where required, represent the Service in Magistrates’ Court proceedings.
Contribute effectively to continuous service development and improvement; acting as Internal Auditor where required and ensuring our activities and projects provide customer satisfaction and value for money.
Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people or vulnerable adults, with whom the employee comes into contact, appropriate to the content and level of the role.
Applicant Requirements:
Qualifications: The Trading Standards Practitioner Diploma (TSPD) (or appropriate antecedents).
Experience: 2+ years working within a similar role.
