Trading Standards Enforcement Officer (food)
We are working with a local government organisation based in the East Midlands who are looking for the interim support of an Enforcement Officer (Food) to join the team during a busy period.
Duties will include undertaking food standards inspection visits and other interventions, the investigation of complaints, providing advice to businesses and taking samples.
Key Requirements:
To undertake the inspection of trading premises, vehicles, farms, the examination, testing and sampling of equipment, goods, livestock, services, facilities and selling claims for the purpose of ensuring compliance with legislation enforced, and the promotion of the aims and objectives of the Service in relation to five of the designated areas of enforcement activity at the higher level of responsibility
To receive, analyse and record complaints and enquiries from the public and trade and industry, to respond immediately where this is possible by the provision of information, guidance and advice and to refer to the designated officer those requiring further action as required
To keep appraised of legislative and technical developments and changing trading practices as they impinge on his/her functions and for these purposes, in accordance with the Service’s policy, to liaise with those officers having specialist responsibility within the Service
To investigate alleged offences and unfair trading practices and to prepare reports on those investigations, to obtain statements from witnesses and others, when required to prepare letters to traders, draft documents for court purposes and when necessary to give evidence in court
Deal with less serious incidents by cautionary advice or other means
To undertake enforcement assignments and projects and to collate information derived into reports. To ensure that proper records are maintained of all work undertaken
To be responsible for the care, custody and proper use of standards and equipment allocated to him/her or used by him/her
To supervise technical staff and other staff attached to him/her from time to time. When required, to undertake all the duties and responsibilities of a Senior Fair Trading Officer To ensure that his/her methods of working and those of other staff with whom he/she may work are in conformity with County Council and Departmental safety policies and to report any incident or situation
