Role                                        Metrology Technician

 

A vacancy has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our metrology team based in a north east London Borough where officers with a reputation for quality and innovation with our work contributing to many cross cutting Council wide agendas.

 

The North East London Metrology Partnership provides weights and measures services on behalf the Trading Standards departments of five North East London boroughs. The department is responsible for inspections and business advice across these boroughs plus other parts of London. We run a commercial UKAS accredited calibration laboratory, and calibration services for volume and mass.

 

The North East London Metrology Service has a positive approach to customer service, offering tailored professional services to our partners and clients. We work closely with other local authorities and businesses to assist with compliance issues and practical advice, in addition to testing measuring equipment for trading standards departments, manufacturers and other industry.

 

About the Job

 

A rare opportunity has arisen to join our friendly team working both in our laboratory and away from the office working with businesses across North East London. The post includes responsibility for testing local authority and clients’ weights and measuring equipment, and the day to day maintenance of the Partnership’s equipment. You will be involved in customer requests, taking new orders and maintaining our work calendar. You will be required to schedule our laboratory work around our site visits and inspection program. You will be assisting our Weights and Measures Inspector on site, testing equipment such as shop scales, beer metering equipment, weighbridges and petrol pumps, and checking packing systems across a variety of indoor and outdoor sites.

 

 This post offers a varied work environment in a supportive and friendly team, providing hands on assistance to play your part in ensuring consumers and businesses receive the goods they have paid for. Training is provided in all aspects of this role.

 

 About You

 

Previous technical or laboratory experience would assist you in this role, which requires good verbal and written skills in order to provide excellent customer service, self-motivation, good time management and competent use of Microsoft Excel. An understanding of working to an accredited quality system would be beneficial.

 

You will be able to create and maintain records using Excel and regarding equipment testing schedules and customer orders using Excel, Outlook email and other Windows office software.  You will have flexibility, enthusiasm and good interpersonal skills to assist in enforcement work which may include making test purchases, handling exhibits, giving statements and attending court if required. Occasional out of hours work, including early starts is part of this role.

 

You must be physically fit with the ability to move and manipulate weights up to 20kgs, equipment and goods tested within the Service’s activities.

 

 It is essential that you possess a full driving licence and are able to drive vehicles on behalf of the Partnership.
