Job description         Claims Management Support Officer Supervisor                 

 

The contract is due to run between 20 November 2017 and 29 March 2019

 

The pay is £10.07 per hour PAYE which rises to £10.33 after twelve weeks or £12.54 per hour umbrella which rises to £12.86 after twelve weeks

 

The office is based in Burton upon Trent

About the Service

 

Community Safety is the generic name given to the grouping of what used to be separate services including Trading Standards, Scientific Services and Animal Health and Welfare. Community Safety is part of the Families and Communities Directorate and exists to deliver and contribute to the Vision and Mission of Staffordshire County Council and to discharge mandatory duties placed on the local authority by central government.

 

The Claims Management Regulation Unit supports the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) with responsibilities for authorisations, monitoring the market and enforcement in relation to the Compensation Act 2006.  This Act introduces a compulsory authorisation procedure and rules of conduct for claims management businesses.

 

The Claims Management Regulation Unit (CMU) is responsible for the enforcement of The Compensation Act 2006.  We work to protect and promote the interests of consumers and the public, and to ensure that the firms we regulate understand and comply with the conditions of their authorisation. 

 

We ensure that businesses who are authorised to provide Regulated Claims Management Services (RCMS) comply with the Conduct of Authorised Persons Rules 2014.  Where we establish that businesses are not compliant we will take action in accordance with our enforcement policy to bring them to compliance.

Responsible for:       Claims Management Support Officers

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

To manage a team of Claims Management Support Officers in the delivery of supporting  Enforcement and Authorisation teams.  This will involve development and implementation of administrative procedures, supervision and development of staff, organising workloads and managing performance and dealing with HR issues in line with Staffordshire County Council policies & procedures 

 

Be responsible for ensuring quality standards are met in relation to documentation and recording on CMU ICT systems, maintaining records in accordance with MOJ, corporate and departmental policies

 

To work closely with senior officers and members of the team ensuring effective communication and consistency within the team

 

Allocate work and supply support and guidance to staff to ensure the achievement of work targets

 

To use and maintain varied Departmental ICT facilities including computer based information systems for input and retrieval of data, word processing, filing and use of office e-mail and Intra/Internet facility

 

Responsibility for the maintenance of confidential and non-confidential filing systems, and operate efficient and effective information retrieval systems, ensuring compliance with any policies on recording, filing, retention and destruction

 

To be responsible for data management of the Claims Management Unit database including ensuring that the database is used in methods consistent with the departmental quality standards, including the production of reports and refer matters to the relevant Principal Officer for action where necessary

 

To undertake a range of administrative duties, which will vary from time to time to meet service needs

Person Specification                                                                               

 

Qualifications/Professional membership

 

Possess a relevant administrative qualification (e.g. NVQ3 or HNC, CBA) or equivalent

 

Good standards of literacy and numeracy (demonstrated by GCSE passes in Maths and English or equivalent)

 

Knowledge and Experience

 

Ability to deliver Quality Assurance Standards

 

Experience of supervising and/or mentoring staff

 

Practical application of windows based systems

 

Experience of databases

 

Experience of providing excellent customer service to consumers and businesses

 

Skills

 

Commitment to raising standards of business compliance, particularly amongst Claims Management Companies

 

Be prepared to work outside of the normal flexi-time scheme in order to meet operational demands

Use of Windows based IT packages, including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook

 

Excellent written communication skills

 

Excellent verbal communication skills

 

Time management and organisational skills

 

Ability to work under pressure and on own initiative
