Job Description Trading Standards Enforcement Officer
Job Purpose
To effectively implement and deliver the reactive and planned workload in relation to the Trading Standards service areas. To provide professional support and advice, in line with appropriate competencies, to local stakeholders and other directorate service areas. To protect and improve the health, safety and well-being of consumers, residents and workers within the Borough at work, at home and at leisure.
Main Accountabilities
To contribute delivery of relevant objectives outlined in the Trading Standards Service Plan with a view to improving the health, safety and well-being of consumers, residents and workers within the Borough at work, at home and at leisure.
To provide professional support and advice, in line with appropriate competencies, to local stakeholders and other directorate service areas.
To participate in key trading standards projects in line with central governments drive towards better regulation.
To provide prompt and courteous responses to public complaints and other enquiries and ensure all relevant information is recorded, via the service computer database system, to aid performance management monitoring.
To carry out inspections, investigations, other interventions, produce reports in line with relevant team duties, and instigate appropriate action as determined by the Trading Standards enforcement policy.
To contribute by carrying out the necessary work associated with completing annual returns required by various Government Departments, agencies and other bodies relating to the functions of Trading Standards.
To carry out any other similar duties as may be required from time to time by the Head of Environmental Health & Trading Standards.
Decisions Made
To make appropriate professional decisions on behalf of Head of EH & TS, within the relevant professional scope and discipline of the post.
To develop and maintain Council policies & procedures. Deliver satisfactory performance and help the Council demonstrate that its services represent good value for money.
Prioritise workload in accordance Council’s policies and procedures to protect the health, safety and well-being of consumers, residents and workers within the Borough at work, at home and at leisure.
Contacts:
To participate in task groups, working groups etc in order to achieve effective cross cutting with other Council service areas and other relevant external organisations.
To promote and drive forward the principles of better regulation with other team members and provide professional/technical advice, in line with appropriate competencies, to team members, local stakeholders and other directorate service areas
Resource Controlled
To make appropriate professional decisions on behalf of Head of EH & TS, within the relevant professional scope and discipline of the post, that may significantly impact on Councils budgets (for example providing appropriate professional/technical opinion or carrying out emergency or prohibition procedures).
